Come Visit Us!

Different Drummer is located in historic Wickford Village, a hamlet of North Kingstown, Rhode Island.  The Village is known for its fun variety of stores, and Different Drummer holds pride of place as one of the most unique.   We may be small in size, but we pride ourselves on using every available space to display our collection of American handcrafts, jewelry, cards and more.  You could spend hours here and still not see everything!

Different Drummer is dog friendly! We all have a great love of animals, and are more than happy to see you bring in your well behaved furry friends!

Due to the historic nature of our building, Different Drummer is not handicapped accesible, but we will do everything in our power to accomodate shoppers who cannot manage the three stairs up into our store! From carrying merchandise outside, to creating private listings in our webstore, let us know what you need; we are here to help.

Since 1971, Different Drummer has been a "must" on many people's list of things to do in Rhode Island. One visit never seems like enough! And from visit to visit, year to year, we love getting to know our customers.  And they love coming to see what we have!  From bracelets, rings, candles, a large collection of Uno de 50 jewelry, notecards, dolls, and necklaces to Christmas tree ornaments, candles, pottery, windchimes, and other handcrafts, curiosities and oddities abound!

And whatever you're looking for, we can't wait to meet you.

Historic Wickford Village

Wickford Village was established in 1709, and is built around one of the most well-protected natural harbors on the East coast.  It boasts a magnificant collection of 18th century homes, and though most are in private hands, the beautiful preservation and historic plaques make the village a wonderful place to sight-see!

Each July, Wickford hosts the Wickford Art festival, the oldest outdoor art festival in the country, and a whole host of cute shops and boutiques to while away a day in visiting.

Choose from an selection of local restaurants for lunch! Want to know which one you might like best? Ask the girls at the Different Drummer, and we'll help you figure out where to go for the dining experience you're looking for.

With an abundance of free street and lot parking, it's an easy place to spend the day, without worrying about meters!

Smith's Castle:

Originally a trading post, the original Smith's Castle was built right around the founding of the State of Rhode Island, before the Revolutionary War, by Richard Smith. Burned to the ground in 1676, the current Smith's Castle was rebuilt in 1678 by his son, Smith Jr. The house and grounds are stunning, and steeped in incredible history.
