Dichroic Glass

The first question is always: what exactly is dichroic glass? How is it made and who invented it? Some say NASA invented it to make face-plates for astronauts that would block harmful spectrums of light. Some claim the process was developed hundreds of years ago by the Italians and can be seen in what is known as Murano glass. In any case, what we do know for sure is that dichroic glass jewelry is beautiful to look at and quite difficult to make. Each piece of dichroic
glass has at least three colors: the color that reflects from the glass, the color of the glass, and a second refracted color that can be seen at a 45 degree angle. The process requires special equipment, and can be quite expensive to produce.
Different Drummer is proud to carry several dichroic glass pieces. Come on down to the shop and see them firsthand, or, if you like what you see, order it here and we'll ship directly to you. And you don't even need to be an astronaut.
